Vigil is free under the SIL Open Font License and there is nothing to sign up for. There is no account, no email capture and no login, so there is no database of users to lose, sell or hand over.
The font files
The fonts themselves collect nothing at all. A font is a table of outlines; it makes no network calls, runs no code and reports nothing back. Once you have downloaded Vigil it is yours, offline, and this site never hears about it again.
If you link the webfonts from vigilfont.com/fonts on your own site, your visitors’ browsers fetch those files from our host. That request is an ordinary server log line — an IP address and a timestamp — and nothing else. It is not tied to analytics and it does not follow anybody anywhere.
This website
vigilfont.com uses Google Analytics to see which pages people read and which sites send them here.
It runs with Google’s consent settings set deliberately. Advertising storage and signals are denied everywhere — Vigil does not advertise, so the tag never asks. Analytics cookies are denied in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, where visitors are counted only by Google’s cookieless pings. Elsewhere an analytics cookie is set, which is what lets us tell a returning reader from a new one.
That is also why there is no cookie banner. Where consent would be required, nothing is stored, so there is nothing to ask you about. What Google does receive is covered by their privacy policy, and any tracker or ad blocker will stop it regardless.
Standard server logs are kept by Vercel, our host, for security and reliability. Downloading Vigil requires nothing from you.
Children
This site is not directed at children. It collects only the analytics described above, and never asks anyone for a name, an email address or any other personal detail.
